Baihua Lake Scenic Spot:
Baihua Lake is situated about
22km northwest of Guiyang City; where wooded islands surround
this clear fresh water lake. It covers an area of 13.5 sq. km. The
wooded island is a sanctuary to a variety of species of birds like bitters
ospreys, teals, etc. To the south of the lake stands an ethnic
village, which is formerly a site of an ancient battleground with remains of
ancient city gate ruin and road. Next to the village is a lake bay with a
beautiful name, called the Moon Bay. To the southeast of the lake is a small
town called Zhuchang, which is an ancient town famous for its traditional
Chinese buildings and wine.

Jiaxiu Tower

Built in 1598 during the
Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD), Jiaxiu Tower is located on the Aoji Rock
(the rock which looks like a huge turtle according to legend) on the Nanming
River in the southern part of Guiyang City. It is renowned for its layout such
as the three-story tower 20m high with three carved eaves supported by a
stone pillar and atop which is formed by diminishing size as four directions
mount up. Located in water, right of the Guanyin temple and the Cuiwei tower;
left of the Haibi pavilion, the Jiaxiu Tower is connected with two banks by the
Fuyu Bridge (Floating Jade Bridge). All of these make Jiaxiu Tower spectacular.
There are many antithetical couplets carved or written on the Jiaxiu Tower by
ancient people. Among them, the most famous couplet written by Liu Yushang in
the
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD) has 87 words in the first line and the
second line respectively can compare in beauty with the Big Guan Tower in
Kunming.

Huaxi Park

Called "the flower of Guizhou plateau", the Huaxi Park is 17km away from Guiyang on the southern outskirts in Huaxi County. There is a lot of enchanting
scenery here including green trees and all kinds of flowers. Huaxi brook runs
across the four mountains of the kylin, the phoenix, the tortoise and the snake
with the Bashang Bridge, Fangge Bridge, South Lake and Shongbai Park scattered
among them. All of these make the scenery elaborately and naturally designed. Meanwhile,
there are many villages sitting outside the park where you can enjoy the local
customs. After climbing to the top of the kylin mountain, you can enjoy the
entire wonderful scenery of the park and the surrounding countryside. Summer is
the best time to visit this park owing to the fresh air and comfortable climate.

Qianling Park
Qianling Park is located on Qianling Mountain, northwest of Guiyang, It is named
after Mt. Qianlingshan which was awarded the title of "the First Mountain in
South China". The Hongfu Monastery on the mountain which was built in the early
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD) is one of the famous temples located in Guizhou province. At the
foot of the mountain, there is a road called "jiuqujing" which winds to the
monastery along which you can see ancient characters, pictures and carvings on
the steep cliff while macaque jump here and there. From the "Kanzhu Pavilion" and "Wangcheng Tower" on the top of the mountain,
one can get a bird's eye view of the whole city. Apart from these, there are 200
Qiling caves and Qianling Lake found here. It was in Qiling cave that Zang
Xueliang and Yanghucheng, two famous Anti-Japanese War heroes and patriotic
generals, were once kept in captivity. In order to assure the safety and arouse
the interest of tourists, a 500m long "Qianling cable way" was built
leading from the foot of the mountain to "Kanzhu Pavilion".

South Suburban Park
Also known as the Underground Park, the South Suburban Park is a scenery park
made up of predominantly karst landscapes 6km. southwest of Guiyang City on the
Xiao Che River. Bailong (the white dragon) Cave, the major cave, winds 587m upward form the foot of a hill, displaying stalactites of strange shapes:
bamboo shoots, bells, pillars, curtains and flowers which dazzle the eye. A fascinating gallery is formed with more than 20 marvelous spectacles: some
like the settings of a stage; some appears as terraces on Miao mountain range;
some flow-like the waterfall of the Milky Way; some shaped like a white dragon
crossing the cave; some formed like Wugang (a character in traditional folk
tales) lifting a wine-glass; and another featured like a lion bidding farewell
to visitors. The verdant hill with unconventional flower nurseries provides both
beautiful scenery and a pleasant environment for relaxation.

Forest Park
Made up of nurseries and forest, Forest Park is located at Tuyunguan, 2.5km
southeast of Guiyang City. It covers an area of 3,900mu with continuous
mountains and various peaks. More than 1 million species of rare plants and
trees are widely planted here, among them masson pine, cypress, oak, poplar,
pine, China fir, Chinese catalpa, camphor trees and tea-oil trees are just a
sampling. There are also flower beds, orchards, tea houses and the Zhong Shan
Garden in the park along with the well preserved stone tablets and
cliff-carvings of the
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD). The monuments to the international medical
aid workers to China and the tomb of an English woman-doctor Gaotianyi, stand in
the park in memory of the aid of friends abroad during China's Anti-Japanese
War. The park is densely wooded and quite secluded.

Tianhe (Heavenly River) Pond
Formerly called the Tiansheng (Heavenly Born) Bridge, the Tianhe Pond is
situated on the upper reaches of Huaxi River in Shiban Town, 12km from Huaxi
district and 25km from Guiyang. It is a newly opened scenic spot with Tianhe
Pond as its center. Precipices tower into the clouds with green trees spotting
the mountain and surrounding the pond like a skylight. The crystal clear blue
water in the pond reflects a plank path built along the face of cliff. Around
the pond there are three karst caves, the Upper Cave, Right Cave and Lower Cave. Tourists can boat into the Upper Cave on the underground river and enjoy
wonderful scenery like the Conch Palace and the Tides Pond. The Right Cave is a
dry one, along which one can get pleasure from natural scenery while climbing up
the mountain along the cave. The Lower Cave is under a natural bridge where
water flows out of the pond and forms a series of waterfalls with rural scenery
of a bridge and waterwheel. The scenery of skylight and deep pond, river on and
under the ground, dry and watery cave, rural scenery displays distinctive,
mysterious and wonderful colors.

Hongfeng (Red Maple) Lake
Lies in the upper reaches of the Cat-jumping River, 4km west of Qingzhen Town
30km. from Guiyang City. Hongfeng Lake is the largest man-made lake in Guizhou
Plateau. Covering an area of 57.2 sq. km, the lake is dotted with more than 170
islands and islets. It falls into four differently featured parts: the North
Lake with a vast expanse of blue water, the Middle Lake with narrow water and
unique mountains, South Lake with multiplied mountains and double-backed
streams and the Rear Lake with dotted islets.
Little Gorges Stone Forests, Snake Isle, Monkey Isle, Bonsai (potted landscapes)
Hill and Jiangjun (General) Rend provide tourists with a profusion of
sights adding attractiveness to the lake. At Jiangjun Bend, there are two karst
caves: Fishing Cave, a dry cave falling into seven stereoscopic parts and
Jiangjun cave, a water cave with a lake on which tourists can take a boat ride
and see exquisite stalactites. Nationality Courtyards of Miao, Chong have been
opened up in recent years, attracting more and more tourists with its colorful
customs and folklore.

Huangguoshu Scenic Zone
Made up of 23 falls of which four come out of underground caves, the Huangguoshu
Scenic Zone is located in Zhenning Buyi-Miao Autonomous County 150km from Guiyang City and 54km from Anshun City. Huangguoshu Fall, world famous and the
largest fall in the Zone, reaches a width of 81m with a drop of 74m. Behind the
Fall, lies the 134m long Shuiliang-dong (the Water Curtain Cave) where one
can watch the grand fall inside which makes you feel like you are in a
fairyland. Spotting in the Zone, are other falls with distinct features and
charm respectively. There are the Doupotang Fall, the broadest with a width of
105m and a height of 21m; the Luosi Fall with a height of 31m and the river
flowing over it, it zigzags along for 350m, the most elegant Yinlianzuitan Fall
displaying scenery resembling many silver chains falling down, the Dishuitan
Fall which breaks into 7 cascades with special attractiveness and the
Guangjiaoxia Fall with the biggest flow. After visiting the Zone, one would feel
as if he has visited all the falls in the world. Tianxing Bridge Scenic Zone: With a length of 1,000m and a width of 300m,
the Tianxing Bridge Scenic Zone lies 6km down the Huangguoshu Fall with
peculiar mountains, queer waters and fantastic caves. Various stone forests spot
this Zone with heights from 5m to 20m. Stone forest in and out of the river,
water over stone, stone above water and trees on stone display a wonderful
three-dimensional picture right before your eyes.

The Protected Natural Region of the Fanjingshan Mountains
Located at the juncture of jiangkou, Songtao and Yinjiang counties, the state
"C"
ranked Natural Conservation of the Fanjingshan Mountains covers an area of 567
sq. km and is one of the typical regions in China where the
subtropical forest ecosystem, Mount Fangjingshan already become a Buddhist
shrine well-known nationwide. In this region, the green peaks rise upon ridges
and the gullies and valleys are deep and serene with some cliffside waterfalls
plunging down among the grotesque stones. Plenty of temples and stele remains
are dotted over landscape.
Within this virgin forest of about 300 sq. km grow the dove trees,
the Chinese tulip tress, the crape myrtle and other rare plants and dwell the
golden monkey of Guizhou and other rare birds and animals. On reaching the
Golden Summit, the highest peak of Fanjingshan Mountains range, tourists
will enjoy a sea of cloud with turbulent waves and hear the wind whistling, just
as in a fairyland.

The Nice Dragons Cave Scenic Spot
The Nice Dragons Cave scenic spot is situated at the northern end of Mount Liulong in the east of Tongren County and consists of the Guanyin Mountain, the
Lotus Temples, the Nice dragons Cave, the Shishan Cave, the Jiangjiang River and
other scenic sites. Being the center part of this spot, the Nice Dragons Cave is
made up with eight large halls, one of them tops over the others, and a
subterranean river as well. The whole cave is divided into two levels, the upper
one is dry while the lower is filled with running water. Inside the mysterious
cave, crowds of stalactites and stalagmites in different appearances and colors
show their charms.

The Maolan Karst Forest Natural Conservation
The Natural Conservation of Maolan Karst Forest, located in the southern suburbs
of Libo County town, is a treasured land where the virgin forest is well
preserved on the karst landforms of the middle subtropical zone in China. Its
total area amounts to more than 130 sq. km of which 91.58% is
covered with the primeval plants. There grow more than 500 kinds of arbor trees,
such as the ginkgo knows as the living fossil and the Chinese tulip tree and
other rare plants, and dwell many wild animals, such as the forest musk deer,
rhesus monkey, must deer, the south China tiger, wild ox, bear,
leopard, white monkey etc. In addition, there are the Xiang shui River
Waterfall, the Small Seven-Hole Cave Group, the Mandarin Duck Lake, the Big
Seven-Hole Cave and the rich customs of the Yao nationality.

The Attractive Spots
of the Minority Customs
The traditions and customs of the Miao and Dong in Kaili are most colorful in
Guizhou Province. Currently, the major tourist attractions in east Guizhou
consist of the villages of the Miao, Dong and other nationalities, namely
Qingman, Wenxing, Matang, Upper Langde, Xijiang around Kaili, Shidong, Baojing,
Fanpai and Tonggu. Each nationality dresses its own gorgeous costumes and
ornaments and celebrates varieties of festival. The Pile Dwelling of Miao and
Dong, the drum tower, the roofed bridge and other traditional buildings are
unique in style and structure.
Paying a visit to these villages, one may enjoy watching the minority women
making handicrafts, embroidering, weaving, spinning and wax printing. There
the tourist may buy the fantastic handicrafts, taste the local dishes and take
part in the traditional entertainments specially organized for the guests.
